About this archive

The first time I looked for Karmuwala on a map, I couldn't find it. Our Karmuwala, near Tarn Taran, the village that sent my ancestors to Singapore, was only a cluster of unnamed rooftops beside the Beas.

This site is my attempt to put it back on the map. It gathers the village's history, family stories, interviews with elders, and the maps, photographs and documents that families and archives have shared.

It is for Karmuwala's descendants, wherever they now live, and for anyone curious about how one small village connects to the larger story of Punjab and its migrations.
